The North Toe is a natural mountain river. Water level, clarity, current and trip character respond to rainfall and seasonal weather.

What changing flow means
Higher flows can make the river faster and more energetic. Extended dry weather can produce slower, shallower conditions. Current outfitter guidance should take priority over assumptions based only on the weather at your home or lodging.
What to check before you leave
Rain anywhere upstream in the watershed can affect the North Toe later, even if Bakersville is dry when you check.
Use current Loafers Glory guidance rather than assuming conditions from a previous visit or a general weather forecast.
Consider ages, comfort around moving water and whether the day’s conditions match the experience your group wants.
